On 4/22/24 by Zoom, a TTA Needs Assessment meeting was conducted to go over with Grantee Jemez Pueblo their TTA Needs Assessment.
In attendance, TLPI Tribal Courts Team, and Kiana Gachupin, Tribal Court Administrator (Interim)/Clerk; and Cedric Fragua, current probation officer.
Needs Assessment: Team reviewed all of the answers on the TTA Needs Assessment and asked clarifying questions to get more information on specific needs, training, resources that would be helpful, current status of project goals, and planning. Team will get together to come up with a work plan and/or have an additional meeting to follow-up.
They are working with American Indian Development Associates to do a strategic plan. This has been mostly completed but she has to give them 3 years of data and is still collecting that.
The following is the snapshot of the TTA Needs Assessment areas for priority focus: Community Needs Assessment/engagement: Muli-jurisdictional response/collaborations; intertribal response/collaboration; Data collection and information sharing strategies; Tribal code and policy development (Other subject matter area for code and/or policy development or revision: Bench Book, Court Administrator Manual, Court Clerk Manual, Probation Manual Working on updating DV and Child Welfare Code); Tribal Court planning and implementation; Training Tribal justice professionals (judges, clerks, administrators, etc.); Court Technology; Court Security; Data Management; Developing Self-Help websites
Developing Self Help/Pro Se Forms; Legal Aid Services; Establishing Peacemaking/Traditional Court Program; Alternative/Restorative sentencing options; Circle Keeping and Peacemaking Facilitator Training; Establishing other RJ systems, processes, practices, alternatives to incarceration.
