CHJ connected with the Benedict Center through a COSSUP grantee convening in Milwaukee. The Benedict Center requested TA on prearrest diversion and deflection for people who are doing street-based sex work. CHJ met with the Benedict Center to discuss their work, the challenges they are encountering, and the role of deflection. Sent a follow up email including the following resources: The Deflection Conversation Framework: A Community Engagement Tool for First Responders, The Six Pathways: Frameworks for Implementing Deflection to Treatment, Services, and Recovery, and Case Studies on Officer Intervention, Active Outreach, and First Responder and Officer Referral pathways. A second meeting has been scheduled.
12/8 Met with Jeanne Geraci and Melinda Hughes to discuss developments in their work, including their plans to create a liaison position whose role would involve community education and create a feedback loop for community complaint resolution related to solicitation activity, sex work, women using substances, women who are unhoused. Sent follow-up after the meeting with resources including example job descriptions for liaison position.
1/11 Scheduled next check-in meeting for 1/30 and sent additional job description examples for the development of the liaison position.
