In November, TDCJ received clarification that a Grant Award Modification (GAM) was not needed to expand the search to hire eligible applicants to oversee the San Angelo area. TDCJ reported that they have since created another position description with the Office Administration and that the vacant position will be posted on the state employment site within seven days. TDCJ also reported that since the last monthly meeting, they posted and since closed Huntsville’s position. TDCJ states that the posting yielded good applicants who are now going through the screening and interviewing process. They expect all staff to be hired and trained by February 2024. Despite having vacant positions, TDCJ reports that the PO4s have made progress with researching different assessments and program applications that they will be using for the program. They are meeting to discuss the top three and submitting a purchase order for those three assessments/applications. There is also discussion about broadening the other programs currently being used, especially in the American Community Corrections Institute (ACCI) Life Skills and Anger Management Curriculum. Historically, programming is free for those who participate at the Day Reporting Center (DRC); however, those outside of the area are required to pay a fee to a community partner to complete programming. The proposed program will alleviate the cost of the participant and make the programming virtual allowing all to participate without a fee. The project is specifically designed for people who are in rural areas and outside of the 12 district offices. TDCJ has not selected a training platform due to the fact that no staff have been onboarded to date.
Technology Project:
In November, Recidiviz spent most of the month revising its prior project approval memo and budget after TDCJ requested a second technology tool (to help them track contacts), with the input of CSG Justice Center staff. Recidiviz also spent time internally scoping the project and ensuring it has the necessary resources to devote to two tools in Texas. Lastly, Recidiviz also discussed internally a plan for a site visit in Texas in January or February and shared some details with CSG Justice Center staff for their review.
