NY DOCCS issued the Request for Information (RFI) “Smartphone Technology and Smartphone Devices” on 11/9/23 with questions due on 11/30/23, and the concluding date for responses on 12/21/23. The grantee will then schedule conferences with vendors, and the CSG Justice Center TA coach will join these meetings.
Additionally, CSG Justice Center staff discussed considerations for the use of the phone with the grantee, including what will happen if someone uses the phone inappropriately. These considerations will be addressed during the conversations with vendors about how they will take steps to safeguard equipment as best as possible and include restrictions or limits on the phones. NY DOCCS will create clear guidelines for participants, similar to their approach to conditions for electronic monitoring devices and alcohol monitoring devices (damage/loss is built into the contract), and they have a new policy addressing this that will be published soon.
