Guidelines for Managing Substance Withdrawal in Jails: A Tool for Local Government Officials, Jail Administrators, Correctional Officers, and Health Care Professionals was published in June 2023 by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance and National Institute of Corrections. Deaths from substance withdrawal while in custody are preventable, and jails and the larger community have a pressing responsibility to implement policies and protocols that will save lives. The presenters introduced the publication, describing its purpose and implementation steps, and shared training and technical assistance opportunities.
