Quinault Nation recently participated in a Becoming a Trauma Informed Court Learning Collaborative through the SAMHSA/GAINS Center. TLPI recently participated in a presentation on Historical Trauma from the Native American Perspective. The TTA providers for the learning collaborative enlisted TLPI in collaborating in providing technical assistance to the Quinault Indian Nation HTWC. Initial inquiry for TTA was received from SAMHSA/GAINS, followed by a TTA request from Quinault Wellness Court Coordinator, Nora Mix, for assistance in facilitating a 3-day THWC team training for adult court and juvenile court.

TLPI Wellness Court Specialist Kristina Pacheco led this TTA request with support from SAMHSA's Violette Cloud for a trauma-informed perspective. National Drug Court Institute, Paul Boeing, led the JHWC portion of this training (an additional 1.5 days after the 1.5-day THWC training). On July 24, 2023, a joint TTA meeting was conducted with TLPI, SAMHSA/GAINS and the THWC Coordinator and Judge for the Quinault Indian Nation. The request for assistance was discussed. TLPI took the lead in developing the agenda, topics, and activities for the retreat. SAMSHA/GAINS TTA Specialist was onsite to provide assistance with facilitation. The primary goal of the retreat was to review and make changes to the existing operations manual. A second planning meeting occurred August 4, 2023 and an onsite training was planned for August 14-16, 2023 in Washington.

On August 14-15, 2023, Kristina Pacheco, Tribal Healing to Wellness Court Specialist for Tribal Law and Policy Institute was the lead TTA provider for this retreat. Dr. Violette Cloud, Senior Project Associate, SAMHA's GAINS Center/Policy Research Associates was also onsite and facilitated activities.
Activities included:
-Facilitation of prioritizing topics collected from previous THWC team work
-Start, Stop, Continue, Change activities
-Discussion of changes to existing operations manual
-10 Key Components of Tribal Healing to Wellness Courts
-How Phases and Responding to Participant Behavior work together

A list of prioritized topics was developed with the THWC team and plans were made to continue to meet on a regular basis to complete the changes.
A 1.5 day juvenile training followed and was facilitated by National Drug Court Institute's Paul Boeing.
