On 1/23/2024 TLPI held their Virtual Kick Off Meeting for FY 23 CTAS PA 3 Grantees. Allyson Bluff, Community Program Manager for Kalispel Tribal Court joined the virtual meeting via zoom. TLPI presented on the Tribal Courts, Tribal Justice System, and Intergovernmental Collaboration Projection, the broad range of TLPI resources, publications, webinars, and various TTA projects. TLPI also discussed how to request TTA, the TTA TLPI process (which consists of TA Coach assignments, the development of a TA workplan, and a final TA report. in collaboration with grantees and tribal TTA partners.) TLPI then had a discussion with grantees to identify their TTA goals and priorities. Allyson discussed that Kalispel is expanding legal assistance for tribal and community members. They have been able to work out kinks in public defense work with previous grants . They have tribal court bar to ensure all attorneys know the code, have great contract attorneys. Now they want to have access to civil legal services . The Tribe has 2 land bases that are far apart - one urban and one rural .They are in the early stages of their CTAS project, just got budget clearance . TTA that has been helpful in the past - getting resources from other tribes with similar projects (what works, doesn't work, how it went, connecting with peers). Predicting to be a top TTA need might be help identifying resources for policy and form development, peer learning, templates/examples.
