Proposed Activity: NAICJA proposes to conduct two (2), two-day Roundtable Conferences – one in Anchorage, Alaska, and one in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with proposed sessions outlined below.
Requirement: National Roundtable Conference (up to 30 attendee) to define and discuss Native veterans’ legal outreach and assistance and identify models for developing a pilot project aimed at enhancing focused legal services available to Native veterans. The Roundtable meetings will be held in the lower 48 states and in Alaska to accommodate attendees in both locations and take into account different contextual variables. Proposed Participants: Invited participants will include, but not be limited to, veterans and veteran advocates who work within veterans’ grassroots organizations and consult with tribal, legal, and healthcare entities; attorneys and professors engaged in legal services and clinical legal education; legal services attorneys; program directors and trainers for pro bono legal assistance; representatives of tribal healing to wellness and veterans courts; veterans justice outreach coordinators and/or other representatives from the Veterans Administration and other state or tribal governmental veterans services programs; and those engaged in tribal and state social services and health clinics.
