PRC TTA coaching staff initiated outreach via e-mail correspondence to this grant site's designated point of contact to coordinate and schedule a conference call. A call was held on March 18,2015 with the Georgia DJJ team for the purpose of identifying their training and technical assistance needs and determining how the PRC can best support this site's implementation of their grant. During this call, the PRC TA coaches reviewed the key program aspects of the grant and asked clarifying questions about site-specific priorities and implementation challenges. This needs assessment process will help the PRC TTA coaching staff to better understand the range of proposed activities and to identify core technical assistance needs shared across multiple sites. This process will also inform the development of a TTA plan for the BJA FY '14 PREA demonstration grant sites. The PRC TTA coaches also described the range of materials and support available to the agency.
Scheduled and held call with the Georgia DJJ to introduce them to their designated PRC coach while providing quarterly outreach to the site for the purpose of check-in and progress monitoring
MMC scheduled call as she is the coach for this site's previous PREA grant. KD joined call to do hand off of the FY 14 coaching role to MMC.
The leadership summit remains the priority. Three companies have been submitted to BJA for consideration and approval. The other project component – kiosks to increase reporting of incidents and to improve the documentation of reports – continues to make progress.
A total of 9 facilities will be audited in 2016.
The grant is on track to completion. Gender specific and LGBTI training has been completed. Twenty-six facilities are 100% compliant during the first audit cycle.
Part time monitors were selected to asses grant progress. They are former correctional employees. A 2.5 day Leadership Summit in Atlanta for six states is scheduled in the Fall 2016.
The PREA Coordinator will furnish Phase 2 Intelligence Software Solutions (ISS) mapping information and an agency update.
Audits are in progress in advance of a May deadline for compliance information to be provided to the Governor.
Spoke with Georgia DOC POC Sharon Shaver. Since applying for the grant there are some goals that have already been accomplished. Georgia DOC will be requesting a GAN to make adjustments as other needs have been identified. Sharon reported that they have had their first kickoff meeting with JDI and facility compliance managers on 2/17/16. We discussed their first plan of attack, which is to get into the pilot site and identify where our training deficits are: staff as well as inmates. Culture still largest obstacle...need to develop training that is facility-specific. Sharon also wants to get started on initiating the advocacy piece. The other focuses are a better screening instrument and one more specific for female population. Been working with women's services already on that.
Talia agreed to look for some current screening resources and instrument examples to provided. That was provided. Sharon was extended an invitation to listen to a screening web meeting.
The grant was scheduled for completion in September 2016. Gender specific and LGBTI training has been completed. The PREA Coordinator furnished Phase 2 Intelligence Software Solutions (ISS) mapping information and an agency update. However, in August a new IT director began his tenure. The IT director initiated additional requirements for ISS before the product can be made available to DJJ.
Expenditures for lodging and supplies been fully encumbered for payment.
Part time monitors are actively engaged in assessing progress made in PREA implementation. The monitors are former correctional employees. The unspent WDC travel funds were reallocated to support the monitors travel and lodging at various DJJ facilities.
A 2.5 day Leadership Summit in Atlanta for six states is projected for December 2016.
The consulting contract with The Moss Group has been executed.
