PRC TTA coaching staff initiated outreach via e-mail correspondence to this grant site's designated point of contact to coordinate and schedule a conference call. A call was held on March 27, 2015 with the Virginia DOC team for the purpose of identifying their training and technical assistance needs and determining how the PRC can best support this site's implementation of their grant. During this call, the PRC TA coaches reviewed the key program aspects of the grant and asked clarifying questions about site-specific priorities and implementation challenges. This needs assessment process will help the PRC TTA coaching staff to better understand the range of proposed activities and to identify core technical assistance needs shared across multiple sites. This process will also inform the development of a TTA plan for the BJA FY '14 PREA demonstration grant sites. The PRC TTA coaches also described the range of materials and support available to the agency.
Held my initial phone call with the site lead Lt. Noble. He provided me with a brief update that included work on the cameras and applying steel mesh on doors to prevent looking thru them.
This is a BJA PREA demo grant for the Maricopa Co. adult jails.
Met with Vivian Jojola today and discussed the progress being made by JDI the primary Consultant on the project.
Maricopa county sheriff's office is utilizing the grant funds to advance their efforts to bring their facilities into compliance with PREA Standards. Did not provide a completion percentage.
I visited 2 of their facilities to provide them guidance specific to privacy issues related to their shower and toilet areas. I suggested changes to their existing settings and encourage them to maintain documentation related to violation that occur in those areas.
JDI is the primary contracted consultant working with the 2 Maricopa county appointed PREA staff Lt. Noble and Sgt. Hernandez.
JDI has been assisting the facilities with their screening tool. JDI is also assisting the facility with some follow up Investigator materials to support their use of the NIC E- Learning course for Investigators. JDI is also working on trama informed material for additional staff training. The county will be asking for a no cost extension.
