PRC TTA coaching staff initiated outreach via e-mail correspondence to this grant site's designated point of contact to coordinate and schedule a conference call. A call was held on March 27, 2015 with the Virginia DOC team for the purpose of identifying their training and technical assistance needs and determining how the PRC can best support this site's implementation of their grant. During this call, the PRC TA coaches reviewed the key program aspects of the grant and asked clarifying questions about site-specific priorities and implementation challenges. This needs assessment process will help the PRC TTA coaching staff to better understand the range of proposed activities and to identify core technical assistance needs shared across multiple sites. This process will also inform the development of a TTA plan for the BJA FY '14 PREA demonstration grant sites. The PRC TTA coaches also described the range of materials and support available to the agency.
Coordinated and held quarterly check-in call and introduction of coach(MMC) to Maryland Dept of Juvenile Services
Dept. of Juvenile Services – A total of six mock audits have been completed with corrective action required in all sites. The agency seeks consultant resources for assistance. Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections – PREA training materials are being updated for in-house seminars. Seven certified auditors are available to conduct mock audits in advance of actual audit in Spring 2016.
RFP for consultant services in progress. MCASA agreement is in process which will offset both the cost of counseling services and advocates at the SANE exam.
Department of Juvenile Justice scheduled audits in late April. A limited amount of general PREA training was done before the audits. The DJJ used the entry and refresher model provided by The Moss Group.
Department of Public Safety and Corrections will house youthful inmates under 18 years of age in a brand new facility in Fall 2016. Surveillance cameras will be installed in the new facility. A purchase order for a reporting hotline with the Life Crisis Center is in progress.
RFP still in progress. It is anticipated that extensive training will be available through the grant when a provider is identified and approved.
Negotiations with MCASA are still in process. An agreement will offset the cost of counseling services and advocates at the SANE exam.
Department of Juvenile RFP continues. Unfortunately, fewer than the required three bids were submitted. The pre-proposal conference for prospective vendors scheduled in June was cancelled due to insufficient applicants. A grant extension request is in progress. Department of Public Safety and Corrections will house youthful inmates under 18 years of age in a new facility in early 2017. An open-ended contract with MDCASA for victim assistance during sexual assault examinations has been secured. Negotiations for a reporting hotline through the Life Crisis Center continues.
It is likely that a year extension will be requested by both DJJ and DPSC.
