For six months, CJI repeatedly met with the Governor’s office to discuss the status of the JRI effort. During June, CJI discussed drafting an additional op-ed to outline the problem statement our effort is addressing. Towards the end of June, the governor’s office drafted the executive order establishing the task force and agreed on a timeline for the general task force and task force subgroup meetings as well as presentations to the task force. The Governor then signed the executive order creating the MODERN Justice Task Force, and the Governor’s office issued a press release officially announcing its creation on July 11th. The executive order established that the final task force meeting and final recommendations would be drafted by the end of the year. CJI drafted the introductory presentation to the task force, reviewing it with the Governor’s team. Then on August 3rd, CJI delivered its introductory presentation to the MODERN Justice Task Force, receiving very positive responses from members. During the rest of August, CJI prepared jail admissions data from counties across the state to be presented at the first Data Drivers presentation in September.
