A team of Subject Matter Experts (SMES) interviewed TDCJ's staff wellness program administrators and an additional nine agency staff of their choosing, such as human resource administrators, wellness providers, wellness program administrators, and other related staff. During this visit, the team learned more about staff wellness programming design, implementation practices, available resources, and any gaps that need to be improved. Staff Wellness program administrators and service providers were asked about their perception of staff wellness programs, their common staff wellness resources in TDCJ, their unique and exemplary practices in staff wellness, program efficiency, effectiveness, and tools and resources available on online platforms. The visit has taken 18 hours in two days.
The team also asked wellness-related questions to identify and make available some select front-line staff from any discipline who have participated in the agency's wellness program in one way or another. The interview was voluntary and with signed consent. This interview gathered information on wellness practices, gathered information, and created opportunities to learn good staff wellness practices in corrections. The data will be analyzed by consultants, and appropriate recommendations will be made.
