Sharing correctional information across the justice system, or between levels of government, is a challenge in many states. As part of NGA's Policy Academy on Cross Boundary Corrections Information Exchange, teams from the selected states, including North Carolina, convened in Washington, DC to hear about best practices for sharing correctional information and develop strategic plans for their own projects. Speakers at the meeting presented case studies from previous corrections information sharing implementation sites, including Alabama, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Maryland. The meeting also featured experts on sharing health information, separating fact from fiction on federal regulations for health information sharing and addressing privacy concerns in the context of corrections information exchanges. Finally, the meeting included substantial facilitated team time, where state teams developed a business case and next steps for their projects, to be further refined at the in-state workshops.
