In August, CJI submitted a data request to Audrey McAfee, MDOC Director of MIS, which we will need to test the validity of the current risk assessment used in the community.
In October, CJI received part one, of two data extracts. The progress made on this front is encouraging and has been a priority for MDOC leadership, especially considering that using a validated risk assessment tool is a requirement of H.B. 585. After the data set was received, The following week, CJI had a call with Audrey McAfee to examine a preliminary dataset.
In December, CJI received the second data set from our data request and facilitated a call with Audrey McAfee to discuss the second data set received for the validation study of the risk assessment tool. In addition to these discussions, work on the validation study also included: reviewing data elements in the separate risk assessment files, mapping out data cleaning, creating and coding multiple variables to identify sample needed for analysis and measure risk levels, and beginning the data cleaning map for offense history file.
