The third in a four-session virtual Community of Practice focused on the state's role in supporting local efforts to reduce the number of people with behavioral health needs in the criminal justice system, Session 3 explored state strategies to help local communities address persistent funding gaps. Subject matter experts from the Center for Health Care Strategies led a discussion of the cross-sector relationships needed to position state leaders to better align funding and explored state policy strategies to make funding more accessible and responsive to community needs. This includes strategies to that alleviate administrative burdens by aligning reporting requirements and a challenge to states to step into a leadership role to bridge connections with the private and philanthropic sectors to take on big challenges. Communities shared efforts to date to align funding, including their success in leveraging federal funding sources, including Medicaid. The session was facilitated by Katie Holihen, Senior Policy Analyst from the CSG Justice Center and Liz Buck and Mark Larson from CHCS.
