Center staff organized and hosted a one-hour virtual site visit to Midtown Community Court for six stakeholders from the Fort Lauderdale Community Court (Claire Barker, Christopher Leonard, community court coordinator, Brian Blount; Monica Ferrer; Officer Sandi Downs-Keesling, Fort Lauderdale Police Department; Junia Robinson, case manager). The goal of the site visit was to learn about the Community First model, a street outreach initiative that focuses on building trusting relationships and meeting community members where they’re at before making linkages to more meaningful and significant services provided by community. Fort Lauderdale Community Court’s primary court population are individuals experiencing homeless. The court launched mobile court during the pandemic and wanted to learn more about the engagement efforts under this initiative.
