Worked within the guidance and recommendations of the United States Fire Administration on plans to host the 2021 Memorial weekend. Due to the pandemic, restrictions and limits on attendance were in place to ensure the health and safety of all. The Memorial Weekend services was closed to the public and all. In preparing for the National Memorial Service, NFFF Staff and the USFA Management Team developed a vaccination policy that outlined the requirements for individuals to participate in the weekend activities. The plan was two-fold, requirements for the new families attending and requirement for returning families, participants, and coworkers. The intent of the vaccination policy was to give the families the most flexibility in traveling to Emmitsburg to participate in the ceremonies.
215 firefighters, eighty-two firefighters who died in 2019 and eighty-seven firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2020, plus forty-six firefighters who died in the line of duty in previous years will be honored. Family invitations were mailed and registration for the Memorial Weekend opened. Continued to do outreach to families, to collect the bios and photos for the Remembrance Book that is published. Prepared contracts for the ASL interpreters and recruited additional behavioral health professionals to facilitate small group sessions due to the increased scope of the event.
