As a follow up to a recent ES TTA webinar, Alternatives to Using Random Assignment for Outcome Evaluations, which highlighted alternative designs to apply when the ‘gold standard’ is not possible, the ES TTA team launched a series of working group sessions facilitated by Dr. Samuel Scaggs (a Research Criminologist at RTI) to allow grantees to dive deeper into the application of specific matching methods such as propensity score modeling. The working group sessions are designed to be interactive and foster discussion among attendees. The sessions are not meant to be lecture-based but allow for attendees to share challenges with applying propensity score analysis, receive feedback from their peers and subject matter experts, and receive additional resources on these topics and methods.
The second working group session was held on Tuesday, October 26th, 2021, at 3:00pm ET. The second session presented a step-by-step description of applying common propensity score models using annotated output from a statistical software program (i.e., Stata). This session also covered various pitfalls, tips, and tricks to consider when analyzing your data using these methods.
