The 11th annual National Alliance for Drug Endangered Children conference will provide training on the latest research and best practice strategies for drug endangered children efforts at the local, state, tribal and national levels. The conference will enable participants to enhance collaborative efforts to protect children from the harmful effects of their caregivers’ substance abuse. This conference is being held in in partnership with the Florida Alliance for Drug Endangered Children (Florida DEC).

Purpose:
The purpose of National DEC’s annual national conference is to raise awareness about the risks faced by drug endangered children and to provide information and training to practitioners from across the country on how to work collaboratively for better outcomes for these children. The annual conference promotes multidisciplinary collaborative advances in practice, research, and policy. The goal is to prevent child abuse and neglect by promoting more effective efforts to identify, rescue, and provide services for children and families affected by drug trafficking and substance use disorders.

Conference Objectives:
1. Describe chemical and environmental hazards surrounding illicit drug use and exposures.
2. State possible medical and psychological effects of illicit drug exposure.
3. Describe therapeutic management of drug affected children.
4. Discuss the need for care coordination among law enforcement, victim service providers, medical professionals, child welfare, and prosecutors to identify, protect, and provide victim services to drug endangered children.
5. Explain the roles and responsibilities of agencies, including the lead role of law enforcement and the importance of victim advocacy, to enhance collaboration.
