CSG Justice Center Staff conducted a virtual site visit to assist the Colorado Division of Criminal Justice grantee team in conceptualizing and planning for their crisis call response system. Since the Crisis Call Division efforts at the Houston Learning Site are in line with what the grantee team is looking to do in Colorado (have dispatch screen for mental health calls and have the ability to deploy a wide variety of responses based on the caller's needs) bringing the two groups together was very helpful. A representative from the Crisis Call Diversion program, a training officer for the Houston Police Department, and the head of the Harris Center (a behavioral and mental health agency that partners with HPD) presented on dispatch and response procedures. They answered questions from the group of stakeholders that the Colorado grantee team brought to the virtual site visit and offered advice on how Colorado could move forward in designing their dispatch system. They shared data on how effective the program has been and what kind of challenges they faced in designing and running the program.
