Implicit bias is a key factor contributing to racial and ethnic health disparities. Since implicit biases are automatic and subconscious associations that are expressed through attitudes and stereotypes, they can influence judgments and discriminatory behavior toward particular groups of people. This is dramatically apparent in treatment for drug and alcohol problems for people of color and the prevalence of missteps in providing treatment at potential points of intervention to this population. During the webinar, we will delve into the concept of implicit bias to help us understand our own biases related to both race and addiction and what to do about them. You will walk away with a deeper appreciation of brain science, bias, how bias influences action, and skills to attend to bias.
Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
-Demonstrate a deeper understanding about implicit biases and the brain science behind them
-Display enhanced efficacy with recognizing and responding to implicit biases
-Recognize the impact on others and prevent microaggressions
