Amanda reached out to Mobile PD SAKI team for check-in. As part of check-in, asked for any successes and status update on use of SAMS. Amanda also provided information on the Assembly of Cities conference approval process.
Mobile PD SAKI responded with information on successes they have had. Mobile noted their court system has slowed to a crawl with many cases pending grant jury presentation. Mobile also stated that SAKI cases were entered into SAMS but due to compatibility issues with their RMS they are not actively using SAMS for current cases.
Amanda reached out for a check-in with Mobile PD. As part of check-in, Amanda requested information on site successes, ViCAP entry, and and the FY19 planned training. Amanda also provided information on the SAKI Assembly of Cities event.
MPD provided information on a new arrest from a 1997 case. Mobile PD noted no barrier to prevent entry of cases to ViCAP.
MPD also stated they are planning to move forward with in-person trainings in other districts throughout Alabama. The two host agencies, Prattville Police Department and Florence Police Department, are not only hosting the training event, but also providing a facility large enough to accommodate all attendees that will still allow for social distancing. It was discussed in the last MDT meeting that Lt. James had been approached with the idea of having one of the SAKI training events recorded in order to have it distributed via the Alabama Virtual Police Academy. MPD asked if they needed to seek prior approval from DOJ regarding the recording. Amanda did recommend that Mobile PD let BJA know about the request for the training to be recorded.
Amanda reached out for a monthly check in. As part of the check in, she requested information on site successes and any SAAM activities. Amanda also noted that the Denton SAKI site reached out wanting to connect with another community based advocate who has participated in training for advocates and law enforcement on cold case sexual assault. Amanda asked if Laury would be okay with connecting with the Denton site.
Mobile PD responded with a list of SAAM activities. Laury also noted she was interested in connecting with the Denton site.
The Mobile PD also noted that they are opening new SANE rooms in April.
Held chec-in email with Mobile PD. Site provided information on site successes including two new CODIS hits in April. Site also provided information on FY2019 funded trainings in Florence, Alabama. According to the instructors, it went very well and all participants involved were very excited for the in-person training. Everyone felt it was much more interactive than what would have been possible if held virtually. The instructors advised they were able to engage the participants easily and even conducted role play scenarios that participants seemed to enjoy. The instructors are all very excited about the upcoming training that will take place later this month in Prattville, Alabama (Middle District of Alabama). Mobile participated in an EPDR with Lauren Troy on May 4th, 2021.
A zoom check-in was scheduled fir June 11th.
