Chris sent a check-in email to follow up on a request from BJA regarding issues that grantees may or may not be experiencing with ViCAP and to confirm that SAKI TTA has the main ViCAP POC for the site on file. Chris also inquired about serial offenders that the site may have identified as well as a summarization of efforts or success stories.

Chris and Adrienne had a follow up call regarding the PMT conversation earlier in the week with the folks at OJP. Both agreed that the phone call went well and that Austin will work to get the "missed" CODIS uploads and hits addressed as soon as possible.

Adrienne also provided status updates on a few items from previous discussions. She noted that the newly elected DA has been a great change since he is looking to make big changes. He has hired strong team members so far with good backgrounds in Austin and has disbanded one of the two MDTs, shifting focus onto one specific MDT, the SARRT. Focusing on this team is very beneficial moving forward because it brings community based advocacy and sworn law enforcement back together at one table.

Adrienne mentioned that the current police chief is retiring at the end of the month, which will be a much needed change because of the existing "old school mentality" culture at APD.

She mentioned that they are in the process of revising their adult sexual assault victim notification protocol (since it was implemented one year ago) and crafting a new one for child cases. Chris offered for SAKI TTA to look at the protocols and provide input/feedback and also pointed Adrienne to a few Toolkit resources that may benefit Austin.

Adrienne mentioned an Outreach Committee that they have recently started up on the side of the MDT that will host weekly meetings in April for SAAM to provide activities and transparency with the community.

The Austin City Council recently "decoupled" the laboratory from APD, but Adrienne mentioned that this likely won't make much of a difference other than funding because they have strong relationships with the existing laboratory staff. Additionally, the "decoupling" of victim services at APD may become an issue in the future, but all advocates are joining together to urge city council to not go through with this change since it would negatively effect survivors.

Chris and Adrienne connected via email. Adrienne stated that things are going well in Austin, but she had a question about the PMT regarding the definition of serial offenders. After discussion with some other folks internally, we provided guidance to Adrienne and let her know that serial offenders should be considered serial only if they have hit to two or more separate cases.
