The Los Angeles County Probation Department (LACPD) has worked on staff training and resident education. Due to difficulty in hiring a training officer to assist in curriculum development, the PREA team has begun work on curricula on its own. The TMG coaches have assisted in reviewing materials and providing edits. LACPD is hoping to move forward with initiating the PREA audit process to begin in the summer of 2021. This has added pressure on the PREA implementation team in order to be ready for the initial audit. The coaches have encouraged the PREA team to continue to think long term about comprehensive sustainability of their PREA efforts rather than implementing quick fixes to pass the audit. The coaches have also had conversations with the PREA team about speaking with department leadership about realistic expectations for the audit process. With this upcoming audit and the goals LACPD hopes to accomplish, the coaches are hopeful that LACPD is on track to successfully complete the grant. However, due to the time intensive process of review and approval inherent to a department of its size, there are some concerns that they will not be able to complete all the tasks they have set out to do in the grant period.
