CSG and the National Center for State Courts (NCSC) conducted individual virtual office hours sessions with 6 of the 9 Criminal Court Behavioral Health Case Processing Learning Collaborative participant teams to review their team workplans and discuss next steps for the teams to take in terms of improving case processing for defendants with behavioral health needs.
This Zoom call was with the court team from Lake County, CO. 9 people joined the call: Judge Shamis; Lauren Crisera, District Attorney; Rafael Torres, Bridges staff member; Boyd Lake, probation representative; Lisa, problem-solving court coordinator; Amy, sheriff's department; and staff from the Sol Vista behavioral health agency. Patti Tobias from NCSC and Katie Herman from CSG organized and led the call. The team discussed their main priorities in terms of their workplan and next steps. They discussed wanting to develop a small behavioral health docket 1 times per week within their court system that would be coordinated with the Bridges court liaison program and the Sol Vista behavioral health treatment program. The group was able to agree to this initial plan and how the client identification and referral process could work. They also discussed some of the challenges their court system experiences in terms of not having a local jail or probation services available to defendants pre-trial.
