Matt Perkins and John Connelly hosted a LISC webinar for the LISC Capacity Building Affinity Group which is made up of colleagues from local LISC offices. Our team provided an overview of the LISC Safety & Justice model. The agenda highlighted the 2012 Milwaukee and 2014 Alameda County CBCR programs where MKE built collaborative partnerships with MPD and Habitat for Humanity to determine priority homes for renovations and how Alameda County revitalized a large open lot through Eden Night Live events. Staff expressed concerns with community partnerships with police given the current national dialogue around the role of police in our communities and we emphasized supporting safety strategies that can be led through a community driven process that will typically include law enforcement input (as opposed to a law enforcement driven process that in many cases does not include community input).
