On December 14, 2020, Center staff Alejandra Garcia and Sheila McCarthy held an exploratory call with statewide drug court coordinator, Andrew Smith, and problem solving analyst, Maria Pappas, to discuss their FY 2020 BJA-funded grant. The grant proposal includes increasing access to telehealth and remote treatment support services, increasing participant transportation to program services, and improving early identification veterans-related treatment efforts and increasing treatment available to veterans. Center staff proposed working with the state on a statewide teleservices strategic plan. The strategic plan initiative will assess the state's current capacity to accommodate teleservices technology and operations, report findings of the needs assessment, and make recommendations for improving statewide access to teleservices.
Center staff provided Mr. Smith and Ms. Pappas with resources to help guide the state's efforts to implement teleservices policies and protocols. These resources, currently in use by veterans treatment courts in New York state, included a Letter of Intent regarding Zoom use, a Veterans Reentry Search Service (VRSS) user guide, and guide to using Zoom video conferencing.
Center staff will remain available should Mr. Smith and Ms. Pappas reach out for more assistance.
