As the fourth in a series of six of the On Track: A Webinar Series on Improving Employment Outcomes for Youth in the Juvenile Justice System.
Removing barriers to employment to ensure that youth have the ability to obtain viable employment in the community, continue their education, and transition to independence, juvenile justice agencies need to partner with other agencies to eliminate or mitigate collateral consequences, such as eliminating required questions related to criminal history on employment, college, financial aid, and housing applications. This session will focus on what tools exist to support identifying potential barriers to employment, and highlight resources that exist to help identify the legal restrictions and barriers that youth with juvenile convictions may face. Featuring Lucretia Murphy, Senior Director, Jobs for the Future. Her work focuses on people and places—developing integrated strategies that increase economic opportunity for individuals and economic prosperity for communities. This work emphasizes approaches that confront structural racism and other forms of bias in institutional and systemic policies, practices, and processes. Lucretia’s areas of expertise include education and employment strategies for people who are incarcerated and preparing to reenter their communities.
