Despite “no cost to state” budgetary challenges, an eight hour master’s level training plan was developed with an implementation target from May through June.
As a consequence of audit training for both adult and juvenile facility participants the CDCD revised policies and lesson plans and made important improvements to the screening instrument.
PREA-based training for each institution is in progress. The two hour formal educational session requires each participant to sign a document acknowledging his/her training opportunity and further requires the participant to demonstrate proof of practice. The training is expected to be completed by the end of June.
California is a member of an audit consortium with Indiana, Michigan and Oregon. The CDCR has schedule a “practice audit” in Oregon with actual audits to commence in late August in both Indiana and Michigan. The CDCR accompanied the Hawaiian audit team to Carson City which proved to be a valuable educational experience. The first two CDCR facilities to be audited are the Folsum and Ion prisons
