LA County DMH requests a four-hour training program to meet the requirement for specialized training for medical and mental health providers. The training will be provided four times, in order to reach at least 120 DMH employees, with the possibility of an additional 100 medical staff attending (yet to be confirmed). The training will feature JDI's Deputy Executive Director, Linda McFarlane, MSW, LCSW, and Senior Program Consultant Robert Dumond, MA, LCMHC, CCMHC. They will address the PREA standards' requirements for health care providers with a focus on prevalence and dynamics of sexual abuse in detention, how to detect sexual abuse, how to preserve evidence, and effective responses to reports of sexual abuse. Both trainers bring a wealth of clinical and corrections experience, as well as knowledge of the PREA standards and the medical and mental health care curriculum created by the PREA Resource Center and National Commission on Correctional Health care. LA County DMH requests an additional one-day train-the-trainer session for approximately 8 DMH staff trainers. The T4T session will allow DMH to continue to offer this training to those who are unable to attend in August, new employees, and as a refresher.
