Mr. Gunderson at Optum contacted BJA requesting TTA to support Salt Lake County Utah's mental health courts, which were at risk of being de-certified, and BJA referred the inquiry to the CSG Justice Center. CSG Justice Center staff conducted a phone call with Mr. Gunderson to understand the current situation in Salt Lake County (SLCo) and the TTA needs, which were identified as restoring trust between the courts and community-based treatment providers following a period where the SLCo mental health court programs suffered from too little availability of community-based treatment. CSG Justice Center staff discussed strategies for building trust, such as hosting a "behavioral health fair" for the courts to learn more about newly available services, as well as group discussions around the Comprehensive Collaborative Case Planning tools. CSG Justice Center staff also shared a number of resources focused on risk assessment for a behavioral health population. CSG Justice Center staff also offered to make connections with state and local contacts in the Salt Lake area, however this was declined because of potential political sensitivities.
