Chris had a check-in call with Teresa Stafford regarding a few things in Cleveland. Teresa mentioned that the relationship of Lt. Miksch with her team is phenomenal and she is very excited to see someone in charge of the project that is so motivated and eager to push things forward.
Teresa inquired about training opportunities for new detectives and sergeants coming onto the CPD team and Chris pointed a few things out to her over the Zoom line, including the pre-packaged Investigations briefcase, the trauma-informed interviewing webinar, the future role playing scenario video, and some others.
Teresa also asked about outsourcing technical review of their results from Bode because their medical examiner's office still has a few folks furloughed that would normally be responsible for their technical review. Chris mentioned leaning on the Ohio BCI state laboratory, but Teresa mentioned that since the CPD SAKI cases are beyond the statute of limitations, they wouldn't be a priority to the state lab. The FY2017 award will be expiring within the next year, so a Plan B option for technical review needs to be in place.
Chris to inquire with team members about outsourcing the technical review of their cases and potential Plan B options if the medical examiner's office doesn't resume capacity.
Chris sent a check-in email to see how project work is going with the grantee. Chris specifically asked about the technical review process and if that is still being delayed by the furloughed employee situation at the county medical examiner's office. He suggested the potential to outsource the technical review and requested that the Cleveland team let him know if they'd like his assistance in doing so.
An inquiry about the usage of "do-it-yourself" sexual assault kits was included in the communication to see if the grantee has any knowledge of these types of SAKs being used in their area.
Additionally, Chris included information about the Virtual 5th Annual National SAKI Grantees Meeting that is being hosted September 16-18. The registration email from SAKI TTA was included as well as information on the attendance cap per SAKI site.
Chris reached out to Lt. Miksch to talk through a training idea and see how things are going in Cleveland. Lt. Miksch was happy to agree to a conversation about trauma-informed interview training and mentioned that things are relatively well in Cleveland. She said that they still have not moved buildings, but are looking to build a new structure in the next couple of years.
