Chris sent a check-in email to see how project work is going with the grantee. An inquiry about the usage of "do-it-yourself" sexual assault kits was included in the communication to see if the grantee has any knowledge of these types of SAKs being used in their area.
Additionally, Chris included information about the Virtual 5th Annual National SAKI Grantees Meeting that is being hosted September 16-18. The registration email from SAKI TTA was included as well as information on the attendance cap per SAKI site.
Adrienne replied stating that they are aware of the usage of DIY SAKs, but have not seen any in their area at this time. She is going to bring this back up to her team at their next meeting and see what types of perspectives there are in the room.
Adrienne mentioned that they are expecting some changes this fall with regard to local elections and they'd love the opportunity to have some TA surrounding changes in leadership, if we have anything to offer.
She also inquired as to whether or not the Grantees Meeting costs money for attendees. Chris mentioned that it is free of charge and they are allowed to register 5 attendees per unique purpose area.
Chris and Adrienne (the site coordinator) had a great conversation regarding the National Grantees Meeting and a few other items in Austin. Feedback from the Grantees Meeting was great. Austin specifically loved the format and suggested that the opportunity to share materials with other representatives after they're archived was a huge bonus. Adrienne suggested that SAKI TTA host a blended event in the future.
Chris asked for updates on the multidisciplinary team and how things are going. Adrienne pointed out that there are some team members that are "entrenched" in their old school tactics and are hesitant to change for the better, specifically with regard to their perspective of APD. Adrienne and her APD colleagues have made numerous efforts to build the team and collaborate, and most individuals are on board and participate well, but a few aren't willing to join the reform movement. Their formal MDT, known as ISAT, operates as a very technical group and have all appropriate parties at the table. They haven't seen any major impacts due to COVID-19 other than feeling a little more silo'd than usual.
Adrienne was excited to share that she is in communication with the Texas Rangers about a working group between the local and state level to talk about SAKI goals, objectives, and successes. She feels this positive and forward-thinking interaction will be contagious and help the mindset of her own SAKI team.
Chris suggested that in Adrienne's role, all she can do is be a champion, continue to bring a neutral perspective to the table, and team build as best as she can. Chris mentioned the potential to have an interactive scenario SART training once RTI is allowed to travel again, and Adrienne seemed excited.
Chris suggested that whether informal or formal, the relationship between APD and the Texas Rangers would be a great one to have. Thinking of SAKI from a state and a local level can be beneficial in both directions. Adrienne plans to keep Chris updated on any progress made in that arena.
