The Law Enforcement/First Responder Diversion and Referral Mentoring Initiative provides communities interested in starting diversion or referral programs the opportunity to learn from established or innovative programs that have shown success in meeting the treatment needs of individuals with a substance use disorder, and in some cases an overdose. Seven sites have been chosen to act as mentors for newer programs that are trying to establish a first responder diversion program.
During site visits, mentors will provide opportunities for observation and peer-to-peer exchanges, including opportunities to observe the law enforcement/first responder diversion or referral program in action and allowing mentee sites to engage with program personnel. Clinton Township, Michigan, and Families Against Narcotics are interested in participating in the mentoring initiative.

CHJ and Clinton Township conducted the initial call and mentor pairing on February 5. CHJ paired Clinton Township's Families Against Narcotics with Colerain Township based on demographics and similarities between the two sites. CHJ attempted to schedule a call with the mentor but was unsuccessful in contacting Colerain Township, which delayed the matching. After a few unsuccessful attempts, CHJ suggested a different mentor for a temporary match (Cabell County, WV); however, Clinton Township has worked with that mentor before under a different initiative. CHJ wants to keep this TA active hoping that we can arrange a virtual site visit with a different mentor that suits Families Against Narcotics. CHJ has moved to virtual mentor/mentee video conferencing calls. On 10/28, CHJ sent examples of EMS consent forms and policy and procedure documents. We also provided a link to the COSSAP OVC/Drug Endangered Children & Law Enforcement webinar. After numerous unsuccessful attempts to contact Dina between 10/28/20 and 5/19/21 a deadline of 5/24/21 was given for Dina to contact us and indicate her interest in continuing the mentorship. We did not hear back from Dina and this TA is closed.
