The United States Attorney's Office is inviting law enforcement and community leaders from the City of Richmond and Henrico, Chesterfield, and Hanover Counties for a symposium to discuss the drug overdose problem facing our area and how they can better coordinate efforts among stakeholders in the law enforcement, first responder, prosecution, forensic, medical, recovery and treatment, education, prevention, and re-entry areas. The United States Attorney's Office wants to devise real solutions for the current opioid crisis and create a model for addressing the eminent methamphetamine crisis and others that will likely follow. They are also working with the New Jersey State Police, which recently developed a statewide drug monitoring initiative for their state which is designed to identify overdose problems at the start and to help bring available resources to bear for enforcement efforts, as well as treatment for those who are suffering from addiction and recovering from substance abuse. They have invited the Unit Head of the New Jersey State Police Drug Monitoring Initiative, Office of Drug Monitoring and Analysis, to join them at the Symposium and share information on their initiative to halt the abuse and diversion of prescription drugs.
