The Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa of Wisconsin received an award from BJA to plan for the development of a tribal justice system. The National American Indian Court Judges Association (NAICJA), through its office-based training and direct assistance, provided a Tribal Bench Book for the Red Cliff Band Tribal Court. The bench book is a tool that helps guide the court’s judges through the various types of cases they hear — Indian Child welfare and domestic violence were identified as top priorities for the court, because their court saw a significant increase in both types of cases on its docket.
