CSG Justice Center TA providers conducted a day-and-a-half site visit October 24-25th, 2019 to Boulder County, CO Community Justice Services (2018-MO-BX-0043). This included a presentation with the Boulder County Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee on the goals of the grant and the Stepping Up Initiative, a tour of the Boulder County Jail and the Community Justice Services division, discussion of the current screening and assessment pilot at the jail and data collection processes to support this effort, and a meeting with the core planning team to discuss grant deliverables, progress on grant goals, and the Planning and Implementation (P&I) guide. The CSG Justice Center had focused discussions with the grantee about strategies for identifying people who are booked into jail as early as possible using the Brief Jail Mental Health Screen. As a result of this and additional post-site visit conversations, the team is exploring potential ways to sustain the screening and assessment process that they are piloting at the county jail and is refining their data collection strategies to best support their efforts to track the four key measures of Stepping Up.
