"CSG Justice Center staff conducted this site visit to provide technical assistance to key stakeholders in Florida with a vested interest in improving employment outcomes for people with criminal histories under the Second Chance Act (SCA) Adult Reentry and Employment Strategic (ARES) Planning Program. With the assistance, guidance and support of the CSG Justice Center, the Florida Department of Corrections, the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity and additional key stakeholders, this two-day session lead to an understanding of the current strengths, challenges and barriers to improving employment outcomes for people directly impacted by the justice system. Objectives for the site visit included
1. Providing education and facilitating discussions on research driven strategies and best practices to improving recidivism and employment outcomes for people with criminal histories;
2. Assisting ARES stakeholders with completing selected planning exercises, as part of the expectations for the grant program;
3. Identifying any issues that can be addressed during future technical assistance activities.
The participants in the focus group and members of the Cross-Disciplinary Working Group were engaged and knowledgeable about the grant. The grantee has managed to put together a well-informed and diverse group of individuals to participate in the focus group and both Cross-Disciplinary Working groups."
