The Rockford Department of Public Safety requested Dynamics of Officer and Citizen Encounters Training. Command Presence was selected to fulfill the request and provided Dynamics of Officer and Citizen Encounters Training to the Rockford Department of Public Safety on 2/26/2020 in Rockford, Michigan.
Our department and surrounding area departments are involved in numerous high tense and stressful situations by the nature of Law Enforcement. With the increased use of departments with cameras as well as the citizens and subjects use of cameras and cell phones to record these encounters, these high tense and stressful situations are now being broadcast on social media and news outlets. The problem exists currently that by the use of these cameras any citizen / police contact can potentially be broadcast nationwide. Departments in the Grand Rapids / Rockford / Kent County area are now having these interactions dissected by any and all citizens and many times are not shown or given all information and make negative judgments based off of the small amount of interactions seen. Our departments because of this are then seen the severe negative impacts that the police / citizen encounters have for the community relations are departments are working so hard to strengthen. It has become evident that even if the surrounding agency are not involved in the police / citizen encounter that raises negative light, the interactions between police / citizens on a daily basis are being affected.
