The Fairbanks, Alaska Police Department (PD) requested “Leading without Rank”, “Recruiting and Retention”, and “Dynamics of Officer and Citizen Encounters” training. Command Presence was selected to fulfill the request and provided the six-day course to 75 newly promoted sergeants on November 13 -21, 2019, in Fairbanks, Alaska.
The Fairbanks Police Dept is suffering from low staffing issues like the rest of the country. We are struggling with recruiting and retaining qualified Officers. The result has been, out of a 45-man department, with 17 patrol officers, 12 of those Officers have less than 2 years with the department. The lack of experience at the patrol level has caused some public perception issues when it comes officer and citizen encounters. This also puts a strain on our senior officers as they are left with training all of the newly hired Officers. Additionally, we have had to train Officers with limited time on the job to train newly hired Officers.
Fairbanks Police Department is requesting assistance and training on their current and future officers of this department.
