The Council of State Governments Justice Center conducted a site visit to Los Angeles as part of the Economic and Workforce Development Department's FY17 SCA Implementing County and Statewide Plans to Improve Outcomes for Youth in the Juvenile Justice System grant to accomplish the following: (1) Conduct a training on meeting specific needs of a juvenile justice population. CSG Justice Center staff conducted a training for Youth Source Center staff working on this project on research and evidence based principles in addressing the needs of juvenile justice involved youth. The training also focused on the specific needs of justice involved youth including understanding collateral consequences, working with probation, and other juvenile justice specific hurdles youth will be facing; and (2) Host a strategic planning session. CSG Justice Center staff also convened key stakeholders including EWDD staff, Youth Source center staff, and Probation to strategize on how to build a formal and sustainable structure for the program. The session focused on what formal agreements to need to be in place to allow for the program to be successful and also scale able beyond the initial four pilot sites.
