The First Responder Diversion Affinity Group will convene to discuss issues relevant to first responder opioid overdose outreach and diversion practices. The affinity group will identify and discuss various pathways to treatment forged by first responders and address challenges in the planning and implementation of those pathways. Participation is encouraged from both public health and public safety providers: This range of representation will support the exploration of methods to enhance effective coordination and communication between the two systems. Group members will benefit from the lessons learned from their peers and share ideas within the group on improving pathways to treatment within their jurisdictions. Over the course of the affinity group, participants will explore: 1. Similarities and differences within the range of pathways to treatment developed by first responders across the country, including similarities and differences among the models on how individuals are identified, level of engagement by responders, and how individuals are linked with treatment services. 2. Treatment access and capacity issues, including the importance of rapid access to treatment for at-risk opioid users and the inherent challenges. 3. Client engagement methods utilized by various programs to refer individuals to treatment providers and the role of behavioral health specialists in this process.
