Milestone Description

Clark County reached out for Multidisciplinary Team SOP guidelines including how other groups have their guidelines written and how they use them to increase efficiency and communication. This MDT is specific to the SAKI cases and is usually comprised of cold case detectives and their Sgt. from LVMPD, an advocate from LVMPD, the SAKI prosecutor, an advocate from the DA’s office and an investigator from the DA’s office. Other law enforcement agencies are invited, but they don’t attend frequently. Rape Crisis is also invited as well as our SANE nurse, but they don’t attend frequently either.

Other Relevant Information

Jim recommended sending documents on Case Review. Clark Co said that docs on the case review process would be great – but any other SOPs or guidelines would be great to see as well.

Send collection of documents.

Milestone Description

Jim put together a collection of documents from different sites. There were several on reviewing forms and checklists. We didn not have an “official” written document for guiding the case review process. ABQ SAKI has the most comprehensive written “instructions” for the case review to include roles. Jim observed their process in person, and it was really good.

Jim also included the official SAKI case review brief document and forms we recommend adapting.

These will hopefully give you a starting point for discussion and perhaps creating your personalized version. If you do create a guide, it could be a great tool for other sites.

Review details of TA request
Milestone Description

Paige contacted Jodi for follow-up on the Case Review resources. I wanted to check in about the guidelines that could help efficiency and communication. I know Case Review is one part of what your MDT is doing, but even that would be helped with improvements in communication as a starting point. I will ask the other Site Liaisons about ideas for overall handbooks that sites have compiled. With as complex as Clark County is, I also think it could be helpful to look at some of the documents that some of our State Sites have put together. You really do have that many moving parts and diverse caseloads.

I could also identify a few sites that could be good for a peer to peer discussion if you would like. They might be able to help brainstorm as well.

Thanks so much. I’ll be in touch when I have gathered a few more items.

Review details of TA request
Milestone Description

The new prosecutor for Clark County (Genevieve Craggs) and I connected at the Grantees Meeting to discuss their needs and identify a few ways that SAKI TTA can help. We spoke multiple times through the event about the lack of trust and communication within the Clark Co MDT. I recommended that Genevieve go on a listening tour with all of the members of the MDT. They need to discuss past conflicts and hear the other members out on solutions. Then, they can come together to identify ways to build up the trust. I also said that they needed to have MOUs in place.

Milestone Description

Paige followed-up with connections and documents for Genevieve. I wanted to reach out to say again how awesome it was to connect with you at the Grantees Meeting. I’m going on vacation on Wednesday, so I thought I would go ahead and send you a few things I thought could be helpful.
1. See below for a resource set from the SAKI TTA Toolkit. It will prompt you to create an account at your first access of a resource. They are free! We also have a section on MDTs in the Toolkit.
2. The contact information for Portland SAKI. I think they would be really helpful for you as you get started rebuilding communication within your MDT/SART.

3. The Cold Case Review guidance that Jim Markey sent to Jodi is attached.
4. Contact information for an attorney advisor at AEquitas. Her name is Dalia Racine (dracine@aequitasresource.org or 202.499.0314).
5. Once you get your feet wet, I also think it would be a good idea for you to contact Kathy Redmann the crime analyst from LV PD. It could be good for you to get an idea of what they are evaluating with their data to see if it could also be helpful for your office and the MDT/SART.

Other Relevant Information

Paige will circle back in July to see how things are going. Let her know she would be happy to set up conference calls with anyone you think would be helpful.

Paige sent example MOUs. I also wanted to share example MOUs and Confidentiality Agreements that we have from other SAKI Sites. The sample MOUs from Duluth include the ‘DPD PAVSA MOU’ and is one of our only examples with a community based advocacy organization. It’s important to know that they had embedded advocates prior to the SAKI project, so we relied on our pre-existing relationships to create a foundation.
I included the Data Sharing incase that could be important with y’all and LV MPD’s Crime Analyst or even if you decide to partner with UNLV or another institution. I know that NV SAKI works with UNLV, but I didn’t know if that meant you could talk with them confidentially yourselves.
