Amanda reached out to Flint PD for a monthly check-in. As part of check-in, Amanda asked for information on success stories and any sexual assault awareness month activities. Amanda also provided a reminder about the National Meeting abstract submission deadline and the FY2019 SAKI Site Solicitation. Amanda also reiterated that she would be happy to help get the Flint PD charging policy reviewed and approved by BJA.
Mona responded to the monthly check-in providing successes and stating that they plan to apply for FY2019 SAKI funding. Mona also mentioned that she and the prosecutor Khary Hanible were planning to submit an abstract for the 4th Annual National SAKI Grantees Meeting. Mona stated that they will set up a table at local farmers markets for SAAM to allow for discussion of sexual assault in a more comfortable environment. They also hand out items to comfort children and adults who have endured sexual assault. Mona stated that she wasnt sure how to remove the comments and tracked changes from the charging policy.
Amanda responded to Monas email. As part of the email, Amanda provided resources from the SAKI toolkit focused on CODIS hit follow-up and prioritization. Amanda also provided Mona with 2 versions of the charging policy, one with and one without comments. Amanda will help Mona get the charging policy reviewed and approved by BJA once Flint PD leadership approved.
Amanda reached out to Flint PD for a monthly check-in. As part of this check-in, Amanda followed up on any site successes and asked about the status of their charging policy. Amanda also requested information on if Flint PD is entering cases into ViCAP, especially for the Gilbert Conway case. Amanda also asked who from FPD would be their ViCAP rep at the national meeting.
Flint PD responded to Amanda's request for information as part of the monthly check in. Flint currently has two different CODIS hits that came back to serial offenders who are currently serving time in prison for SA.
Mona will be the ViCAP representative at the National Meeting. Mona and Lynetta have both made contact with ViCAP and have not yet received a response.
Mona has additional questions regarding the expenses they have incurred in relation to the Gilbert Conway case. They have had to pay over $30,000 for the conversion of over 1,000 video tapes.
During last check-in, FPD expressed concerns about expenses related to Gilbert Conway. Amanda talked with BJA and since Conway is connected to multiple SAKI cases, FPD may be able to use SAKI funding to help with some case expenses. Amanda recommended FPD reached out to Mila to further discuss their budget.
Amanda also provided direct contact information for a ViCAP representative.
Mona emailed Amanda expressing interest in a phone call to discuss questions they had about using SAKI funding to cover overtime expenses related to evidence in the Gilbert Conway case. Mona also provided Amanda with information that FPD is now entering cases into ViCAP.
Amanda called Mona to discuss her email. Amanda advised that Mona needed to get in contact with Mila Hago at BJA to discuss budget questions. Amanda also provided additional information on ViCAP sessions at the upcoming National SAKI Grantees Meeting. During the call, Mona also asked questions about the definitions for different types of hits. Amanda provided clarification on the types of hits. Amanda followed up on the call via email by providing Mila's contact information and a link to view the CODIS hit counting for PMT document.
