Amanda reached out to MSP for check-in on their progress. Amanda requested information on any recent success stories, the progress of rolling out their tracking system, and the impact of adding two new investigation teams to the project. Amanda asked if the new investigation team for Genesee County works in partnership with Flint PD or if they are handling the SAKs outside of Flint but within the county. Amanda also followed up on the discussion of conducting an inventory partially tested SAKs. Amanda reminded MSP about the upcoming grantees meeting and the abstract submission process as well as the attendee estimation.
Amanda reached out to MSP for a monthly check-in. As part of check-in, Amanda asked for information on success stories and any sexual assault awareness month activities. Amanda also provided a reminder about the National Meeting abstract submission deadline and the FY2019 SAKI Site Solicitation. Amanda also requested project updates on the pilot SAK tracking system roll out, the two investigative teams in Genesee and Washtenaw counties, and the development of materials to conduct an inventory of partially tested SAKs.
Matt Opsommer responded to Amanda's monthly check in with the following information:
• Site Success – Ingham County issued their first arrest warrant for a SAKI case two weeks ago.
• Project Updates
o 500 SAKs from Detroit Police Department were shipped to Sorenson Forensics on 2/1/19. These will be included in Wayne County’s SAKI inventory but we are funding testing with MSP SAKI money as Wayne County did not have any available funding.
o Implementation for the tracking system is going well. The system rollout should be complete by the end of July.
o We have the contracts ready to send out for the new investigative teams but are trying to coordinate with our Attorney General’s Office to have Special Assistant AG’s assigned to the teams as well. Due to a change in administration, this is taking longer than anticipated.
o Partially tested inventory project is on hold while we catch up on other priorities.
• SAKI National Meeting – I don’t believe we will be submitting an abstract.
• 2019 SAKI – We are not planning on submitting a 2019 SAKI application. We just had our 2018 SAKI budgets approved on 3/1/19 and will be focused on beginning implementation of 2018 and continuing 2015.
• At this time, we don’t have anything planned for Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
