Funded by a PRC Minigrant, the Victim Rights Law Center convened two focus groups of community-based advocates to gather input, educate advocates, and increase awareness about how to best implement PREA standards establishing incarcerated survivors' right to access support services "in as confidential a manner as possible." Focus group findings will inform technical assistance and training on incarcerated survivors' privacy protections.

Project leads, Dr. Mary Oschwald, Professor Brenda V. Smith, and Carol Schrader, Esq. drafted findings for the information gathered during their April 2018 focus group and trainings. (Prior milestone.) Dr. Oschwald initially drafted the findings with the intention of making them available through a peer or law review article. In subsequent conversations with the project team and our colleagues at the National PREA Resource Center, we revised the findings to make them more accessible to advocates, et al., rather than as a technical research or law review article. The revised findings were submitted to Impact Justice in December 2018. The findings will be finalized based on NPRC response.
The Victim Rights Law Center presented the findings from the Confidential Community Services Access Project's focus groups to the world through a webinar held on Tuesday, June 25, 2019. They allowed time for questions and discussion, which were thoughtful and added to the findings.
The Confidential Community Services Access Project convened two focus groups in April 2018 to discuss how support services can be provided to survivors of sexual assault in custodial settings in "as confidential a manner as possible." The information from the focus groups was captured by the focus group findings and related next steps, etc.
