On August 27th, 2018, Center staff had an exploratory phone call with the statewide drug court coordinator of Nebraska, Adam Jorgenson, to discuss Nebraska's need for a statewide strategic plan. Center staff will continue to follow-up with Mr. Jorgenson and provide remote technical assistance as needed.

In September, Center staff Annie Schachar submitted a work plan to statewide drug court coordinator of Nebraska, Adam Jorgensen, as it related to the Nebraska Supreme Court Problem-Solving Courts Strategic Plan. In December, Annie submitted a revised work plan to Mr. Jorgensen outlining the Center's strategic planning process. Nebraska's strategic planning process is expected to commence at the beginning of 2019.
On February 19, 2018, Center staff Annie Schachar and Karen Otis conducted a conference call with statewide drug court coordinator, Adam Jorgenson to further discuss how the Center's strategic plan for the state of Nebraska will take shape. The strategic plan will focus primarily on statewide implementation of the national standards.
On March 12 and March 21, 2019, Center staff Aaron Arnold held conference calls with Adam Jorgensen and members of Nebraska's strategic planning committee to further discuss the strategic plan. Arnold and the committee will soon distribute the drug court operations survey tool, BEST assessment, and start interviewing stakeholders and gathering drug court data.
Center staff Aaron Arnold held interviews with the following planning committee members: Adam Jorgenson, statewide drug court coordinator on June 18; Dr. Fred Cheesman, consultant with National Center for State Courts on June 24; and Judge Mike Heavican, Chief Judge on June 25.
Center staff Kelly Van Develde held stakeholder interviews with the following planning committee members: Paul Yakel, Douglas County Adult Drug Court Coordinator and Corey Steel, state court administrator, on June 19; Judge Roget Heideman, Judge for Juvenile Court of Lancaster County, Judge Gary Randall, Douglas County Adult Drug Court Judge, and Patrick Condon, a Lancaster County Attorney on June 21; and Judge Jodi Nelson, Lancaster County Adult Drug Court Judge on June 21.
Center staff David Lucas held stakeholder interviews with the following planning committee members: Leo Dobrovolny, Scotts Bluff County Adult Drug /DUI Court, on June 19; Deb Minardi, Probation Administrator, on June 20; and Connie Hultine, District 9 Chief Probation Officer, on June 20.
Center staff Sheila McCarthy held stakeholder interviews with the following planning committee members: Jennifer Rasmussen, Deputy Court Administrator for Information Technology, on June 25; Sargent Harley Amy, Buffalo County Sheriff’s Department, on June 25; Eric Asboe, Budget and Fiscal Officer on June 26; Anne Power, Midwest Nebraska Adult Drug Court Coordinator, on June 27; and Landon Parks, Lancaster County Adult Drug Court Coordinator, on June 28.
Center staff continue to interview key stakeholder committee members. Center staff have also begun to review some of the results of the BeST assessment and have started writing the needs assessment report.
On September 9 - 11, Center staff, Aaron Arnold, Kelly Van Develde, and Dave Lucas held a strategic planning workshop in Omaha, Nebraska. The workshop went well. Center staff are now writing the strategic plan report.
Center staff are finalized Nebraska's strategic planning report and shared it with the planning committee to actualize. The Center will remain available to assist the state execute the recommendations of the report.
