Felicia McIntire, Chief of the Firearms Section of the Mississippi Crime Laboratory (MCL) requests a peer-to-peer exchange with the New Jersey State Police (NJSP) Office of Forensic Sciences to identify best practices and policies to promote timely processing of evidence and turnaround of hit/lead notifications. The peer-to-peer visit will be held February 12-13, 2019 at NJSP’s Central Regional Laboratory, 1200 Negron Drive, Hamilton, NJ 08691. Planned participants from the Jackson, MS CGIC include Mississippi Crime Lab Director Howell, Firearms Section Chief Felicia McIntire, a representative from the Jackson Police Department and a representative from ATF.
The goal of the site visit is to identify best practices and policies to promote timely processing of evidence and turnaround of hit/lead notifications. MCL participated in a meeting in January 2018 where NJ State Police’s Lt. Col. Geoffrey Noble discussed the success of NJ's NIBIN program in coordinating with local law enforcement agencies and meeting 24-48 hour turnaround times for hit/lead notifications. Both the NJ and MS labs are also state-run labs so there are notable similarities in number of law enforcement agencies served and volume of evidence.
