Will provide on site support for SIM for Winnebago, IL for the Opioid Task Force and criminal justice stakeholders. A brief survey was conducted in advance of the site visit. After several postponements, on-site event to facilitate the mapping exercise occurred on September 26th. The morning session featured brief presentation on pre-arrest diversion & opioid overdose outreach practices as well as best reentry practices for individuals leaving a detention facility. CHJ then conducted a mapping of current interventions in place in Winnebago county from the front to back end of their justice system. After reviewing interventions, CHJ identified potential opportunities to develop or enhance current initiatives. The afternoon session featured discussion on current treatment capacity in the community for individuals with an OUD. Items such as available treatment slots and time from referral to intake were discussed. The event concluded with the group forming two teams who conducted action planning around 1. How they could increase diversion & deflection initiatives for opioid users and 2. How to reduce overdose through better reentry practices for opioid users. The groups reported out on their action steps at the end of the event.
